While the official World Lindy Hop Day 2015 celebration will be in Rome, we couldn’t let them have ALL the fun!! We’ve celebrated Frankie 99 and Frankie 100 with the rest of the world so May’s SAVOY-HOP will be Perth’s celebration of the joy of Lindy Hop and the birthday of the legendary Frankie Manning!
The 26th of May IS a weekday (unfortunately) so we’ll be celebrating on the 30th at the Royal Park Hall in West Perth and boy do we have night planned!
1. The (DJ’d) Battle of the Swing Bands!
We’ll be recreating the amazing Battle of the Bands, held regularly at the Savoy (as best we can of course)!
We’ll have 4 DJs, each representing 1 of the regular Savoy bands including Chick Webb, Count Basie, Cab Calloway, and Benny Goodman, battling it out throughout the night with you deciding the ultimate winner at the end.
2. A brief presentation about Frankie, Lindy Hop and the Australian scene by none other than Roger Schmidlin who brought Frankie to Perth back in 2001
3. A blitz class of some of Frankie’s favorite moves.
Suit up, put on your finest threads and join us and celebrate this dance that we love so much!
Additionally, as part of the celebration, we’ll have a few other plans during that entire week, stay tuned!
